The photography industry is a glam sector, everybody wants to become a photographer but what makes a good photographer different, compared to a great photographer?
Due to the over-saturation of an amateur photographer within the industry, who will usually lowball for the cheapest price compared to what the professionals charge, this creates a threat for the professionals. When a client is on the hunt for a photographer, they barely have a rough understanding of what separates a great photographer from the amateurs.
So, how do you know the difference between a professional to an amateur?
The photographer must treat their service as a profitable business to keep the business running long term, compared to a hobbyist who would shoot for the joy of it.
His/her ability to have a greater understanding of the basic fundamentals of photography and the laws of light. For example: even though, I may not carry myself to others as a professional photographer but rather as a photographer who is learning for now and the years yet to come, I now have the ability to avoid risky situations when shooting for a client. During a shoot of an event that was held because of my basic fundamentals of my camera, how it operates and knowing its maximum strength what it can withstand. I know now how to light up a scene with minimum lights to a single lighting technique.
An easy way of noticing the difference from a clients standpoint is the end quality of the photographers work, if you are the organization that is hiring a photographer and you feel like you're being ripped off, it is because the quality of the products he will be using usually reflect on the outcome or result of the photo-shoot.
And, lastly the ability of a photographer is to create and have a skill of capturing people in their natural state of emotions.
What do you think is the difference between a professional and an amateur's work?
